Din Tai Fung HQ

Xiao Long Bao, NT$180

Shrimp and pork Shao Mai, NT$300

Layer cake & Red bean cake, NT$30 each

Heard that Taiwan's Din Tai Fung has the best xiao long bao in the world so must die die come and try while in Taiwan. Was surprised when we found the place. A small shop between a row of old shophouses. But it houses a few floors. The waitress at the door handled us a order list and asked us to proceed to third floor for our seats. The service is good. Tea is quickly refilled, I think I got at least 5 cups. And plates are replaced before we had the cakes. The xiao long bao is really much better than what I have back in Singapore. Too bad I a bit full, if not I will try more. But I think the shao mai's skin is a bit too thick by the way. Have a bit of problems in order as everything are written in chinese and there are no description.

Golden Mountain fine Art & Life style

Went to eat at Golden Mountain fine Art & Life style in Hsinchu, Taiwan for department's dinner. (Just in case you don't where is the restaurant, across UTAC) Very grand. The first time walking past the place when I thought the place was a grand temple. They even print our company's name on board at the entrance and on the menu, with directions printed on the wall to show us to our tables(just 2 tables). The starter which is king crab is great and big, followed by stuffed you tiao. There was also the usual shark fin's soup which is full of stuffs. French style ostrich's meat with cheese baked shellfish next, followed by Crab meat fried in egg white in Yam ring. We were so full by the time we get to the bao yu, double boiled chicken soup. I did'nt even eat the tang hoon in curry soup. Too much curry powder for this. We finished off with char siew pastry and Haagen Dazs ice-cream. Oh just before I forget, they served very thick papaya milk.

Total damages: NT$888 + 10% per person

Clocks

A man died and went to Heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him.
He asked, "Whatever are all those clocks for?"
St. Peter answered, "Those are lie-clocks. Everyone on Earth has a lie-clock.
Every time you tell a lie, the hands on your clock will move a tiny bit."
"Oh," said the man, pointing at a clock still at 12, "whose clock is that?"
"That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she was totally honest."
"I see," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?"
St. Peter responded, "That's George Washington's clock. The hands have moved twice,
telling us that he told only two lies in his entire life."
"Why this clock point at 11:59, was that man more honest than Mother Teresa?"
St. Peter replied again, "No, that's Bill Clinton's clock ;
telling that he told lies many times in his leader period. One more lie the clock will point at 12."
"Where's Chen Shuei-Bian's (President of Taiwan) clock?" asked the man.
And St. Peter replied, "Abian's clock is in my office; I'm using it for a ceiling fan!"

Azabusabo

Was shopping at Marina Square today when we walked past Azabu Sabo. Unable to resist the beautiful display of desserts, so we to go in to have a bite. Ordered the following:

Ice Chocolate Milk ($5.00)

Hirahira Udon Tounyu Jitate ($11.80)
(Chicken & Crab Udon in Soya Bean Milk)

Golden Flour Milk Shake ($6.50)

The Ice Chocolate Milk Shake was disappointing. It was too watery with no chocolate taste and had too much ice cubes in it. My partner was so upset as the dessert display did not show any ice cubes. It was like being lied to. The Golden Flour Milk Shake compared to it was much better as it was thick and creamy. As for the udon in soya bean milk, it took a bit to adjust to the udon which looked like thick hor fan and salty soya bean milk. Other than that it was good as there was big chunks of crab meat and chicken. Hot green tea was free-flow here and the waitress kept refilling at least 3 times for me. Not bad.

Shimbashi Soba

Ordered the following:

Chicken Rolls ($6.80)

and 2 orders of daily dessert & tea sets ($5 each) Hot red bean soup with soba balls

Soba balls with red beans, ice-cream, mochi, fruits and jelly

The daily dessert & tea set is avaliable daily: a choice of dessert with a choice of hot coffee/hot tea/ice tea. Very value for $$ as some dessert is more than $8 when ordered ala carte. The hot red bean soup was very smooth. The chicken rolls was crispy and nice. Overall very nice.

Kuriya Shaw Centre

In Lady's Sushi Lunch (S$25), I had

Salad with crab meat in chilled chicken soup
,which consisted of shredded cabbage with a bit crab meat and chopped peanuts on top. Tasted crunchy 'cos got chopped peanuts in it. Next I had

Spotted mackerel teriyaki with sweet potatoes
,which also had a piece of egg roll and a braised oyster served in its shell. The sweet potatoes are so sweet that I want to have more also. Followed by

Assorted sushi of the month
,which consisted a piece of prawn tempura cut into 2, tuna sushi, salmon sushi, inari(bean curd skin) sushi, wasabi ebiko maki and a futomaki, plus a bit sushi ginger at the side and served with miso soup. Tasted as expected.
Deep-fried seafood & mushroom in white cream sauce
,which was beautifully served in a shell with thousand land sauce. This dish was one which I like best. very crispy on the outside and creamy inside. There was small small mushrooms, scallops, prawns and pieces of salmon in side. And the cream sauce was not too creamy. Mmmm! As for dessert, I have

White chocolate mousse
,which was very nicely decorated and not too thick, which I finished off with a cup of tea.

There was also business lunch($20) avaliable. Come with

salad (no crab meat compared to lady's lunch but got fishcake), eel rice (the eel is nice by the way), 2 dishes of seasonal vegetables, miso soup, a main course of hotplate kimchi chicken (not spicy at more all, maybe too much water), fruit (the rockmelon sweet) and coffee/tea.

Total damage for the above two sets: $46.78
(Include 10% service charge and GST, plus 10% discount for UOB card holders)

Stress Management

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, "how heavy is this glass of water? "
Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.
The lecturer replied, "the absolute weight doesn't matter." It depends on how long you try to hold it.
If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.
If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.
If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.
In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes. And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on.
As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden. So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down.Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow.Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can.
Relax; pick them up later after you've rested.Life is short. Enjoy it!
